9 New Attractions in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg for 2020

Are you planning a vacation in Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge in 2020? If so, perhaps you’re wondering what’s new for the Smoky Mountain vacation destination. Luckily, there are several new attractions in Pigeon Forge that will add to your Smoky Mountain experience. You can expect even more exciting additions in 2020! Here are 9 new attractions in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg for 2020.

1. Flower and Food Festival at Dollywood

Dollywood’s 2020 season will add a new festival with nearly half a million plants and flowers to the Pigeon Forge theme park’s line up. The park will introduce its Flower and Food Festival from May 8 to June 14. It will feature flower and plant displays from horticulturists and commemorate Dollywood’s 35th anniversary season, according to a Dollywood press release. Some displays will include designs of Smoky Mountain turtles, raccoons, frogs and black bears, and others will be 10- to 15-foot topiary tributes to some of Dolly Parton’s songs, including “I Will Always Love You” and “Coat of Many Colors.”

2. Double Decker Bus Tours

A ride down The Parkway in Sevier County can now come with the wind in your hair in one of the new open air Double Decker Bus Tours in town. A view from the top of the Double Decker Bus in Sevier County. The new Double Decker Bus has been on the streets of Sevier County for a few months now. There are 14 stops along the parkway between Sevierville, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. Right now, the buses start at 10 in the morning and go until 5 p.m.

“It’s a new way to get from Tanger Outlets all the way to Ober Gatlinburg where people can just enjoy, be with their family with everything we have to offer.”

There are currently just two of the buses on the road in Sevier County with more on the way for the busy summer months. A hop-on, hop-off all day pass will cost you $14.99.

2. Chicken Guy Restaurant

Guy Fieri is the latest celebrity chef to break into the Tennessee dining scene. The restaurateur, author and TV personality has partnered with a franchisee to expand his Chicken Guy! restaurant concept across the Volunteer State. In fact, he’s slated to open four Tennessee restaurants starting in 2020 in downtown Nashville just off Broadway, with additional locations coming to Knoxville, Gatlinburg and Johnson City, according to a media release. The addresses of the East Tennessee locations weren’t revealed. This restaurant offers something for everyone, including all-natural chicken tenders and chicken sandwiches with one-of-a-kind flavors. The chicken can be paired with more than 20 different sauces.

4. 360 Tower at Anakeesta

An expansion to Anakeesta will include an observation tower that will be the tallest point in downtown Gatlinburg. Anakeesta, which just opened in September 2017, is embarking on a $6 million dollar expansion in 2020. The observation tower stands 55 feet above the attraction’s Vista Gardens and 655 feet above downtown Gatlinburg. On a clear day, you’ll be able to see as far as Kentucky! This new tower just adds another reason to why Anakeesta is one of the most popular Smoky Mountain attractions.

5. Shops at The Tower Shops at The Mountain Mile

While an exact date for everything to be open at The Mountain Mile has yet to be determined, you can expect a few shops and eateries to open at The Tower Shops in 2020. In spring of 2020, a new REI location will open! The store typically features activities like camping, backpacking, hiking and more. Mountain Rifle Coffee Company will be opening next year too, as well as Currahee Vineyards.


6. Pigeon Forge Chairlift

Gatlinburg has a chairlift attraction, the Gatlinburg SkyLift. But, Pigeon Forge has never had a similar attraction. That all changes in 2020. Not many details have been released regarding this new addition. But, we do know it’ll highlight the rugged beauty of The Great Smoky Mountains.

7. August Moon Indoor Drive-in Theater

Pigeon Forge’s newest attraction is going to be a real blast from the past! We’re excited to report that a “drive-in” movie theater will be coming to our favorite Smoky Mountain city in the next few years. Known as the August Moon Drive-In, this revolutionary concept takes a traditional drive-in theater and puts it inside of a domed building, for a unique indoor experience that is unlike anything you’ve ever seen before.

8. Buzzed Bull Creamery

An ice cream shop perfect for adults is opening in Pigeon Forge in 2020! Buzzed Bull Creamery offers liquid nitrogen ice cream with boozy options. Everything is made to order, and you can even watch as it’s being made! See your treat start as a liquid, then transform into a frozen state in a matter of seconds. While the shop does offer frozen treats for all ages, guests 21 and over can choose from alcohol-infused made-to-order ice cream, milkshakes and coffee. Some of the popular desserts that will be offered are Death By Chocolate and The Dreamsicle.

9. Ruby Sunshine

All-day breakfast spot Ruby Sunshine is coming to downtown Gatlinburg! The brunch spot will be located just off the Parkway at 105 Reagan Drive, near the Space Needle and Skylift Park and is expected to be open by early 2020. The restaurant puts a New Orleans-style twist on Southern brunch classics. Enjoy everything from “Eggs-traordinary Benedicts” to shrimp & grits. The Gatlinburg location will be the fifth in Tennessee. Ruby Sunshine is expanding to Chattanooga as well and already has locations in Franklin and Nashville.

10. Soaky Mountain Waterpark

The new Sevierville waterpark will span 50 acres, and the goal is for it to open in summer 2020. Features of the waterpark include a 35,000 square foot wave pool, a themed kids’ play area, a wave river as well as a FlowRider surfing attraction, kids activity pool, poolside cabanas and so much more!

Wilderness Resorts and Waterparks also owns and operates Wilderness at the Smokies, and Soaky Mountain Waterpark will be across the street at 175 Gists Creek Road, Sevierville.
